COMMENT: Is the Ministry of International Trade and Industry Malaysia (MITI) practicising double standards when it comes to issuing ‘operating permits’ to massage centres in Sabah?

Massage centres are not allowed to open, and a check on a number of centres in Penampang found that they were indeed not operating during this MCO 2.0 period.

However, according to an image of an approval letter in social media, a chain of massage centres was registered under the “Perkhimatan Sokongan” or “Support Service” sector by MITI’s COVID-19 Intelligent Management System (CIMS) and therefore allowed to operate during MCO 2.0.

MITI should have clear guidance to be fair to all businesses, and not have double standards in approving applications.

All applications for a permit to open during MCO should also be checked to ascertain the type of business under the Support Service sector or any of the other sectors.
